Cookie Policy

What we store in your browser, why, and how to change your choice. No advertising cookies.

Last updated September 24, 2026

This policy explains the cookies and browser storage Bimiq uses and how to control them. The short version: essential cookies keep you signed in, one analytics cookie is set only if you accept it in the cookie banner, and we do not use advertising cookies.

01What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. It lets the site remember things between requests, such as the fact that you are signed in. We also use browser storage, which works in a similar way, for a few conveniences described below.

We only use first-party cookies, set on our own domain. We do not run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

02Essential cookies

These keep the service working, so they are set without asking. Without them you could not sign in, stay signed in, or have your cookie choice remembered.

CookiePurposeRetention
next-auth.session-tokenKeeps you signed in. This is the session itself.Up to about 30 days
next-auth.csrf-tokenProtects sign-in against cross-site request forgery.Session
next-auth.callback-urlRemembers where to return you after signing in.Session
bimiq_cookie_consentRemembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies.1 year

Over HTTPS, the sign-in cookies carry a __Secure- or __Host- prefix.

03Analytics cookie, only with your consent

If you choose Accept all in the cookie banner, we use PostHog to understand which features are used and where the product can be improved. It is served through our own domain, so it does not act as a cross-site tracker. If you choose Essential only, it is never started.

CookiePurposeRetention
ph_*_posthogRecognizes a returning browser and links product events into a session, so usage can be measured.Up to about 12 months

This cookie does not read your projects. It records how the product is used, not what you design.

04Browser storage

A few conveniences are kept in your browser rather than in a cookie:

  • bimiq:pending-brief (session storage) keeps a brief you typed on the home page while you sign up, so you do not have to type it again. It is cleared when you close the tab.
  • Workspace hints, such as editor-camera-controls-hint-dismissed:v1 (local storage), remember that you have already dismissed a tip.

Your projects themselves are stored on our servers, not in browser storage.

05How to change your choice

  • The cookie banner asks the first time you visit. Essential only keeps analytics off; Accept all turns it on.
  • To change your choice later, delete the bimiq_cookie_consent cookie for getbimiq.com in your browser settings. The banner appears again on your next visit.
  • Your browser can also block or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies will stop you from signing in.

Declining analytics does not change what the product does or what it costs. It only means we see less about how it is used.

06Changes to this policy

As the product changes, the cookies it uses may change too. When that happens we will update this page and the date at the top. If we introduce another category of cookie that needs your consent, we will ask for it before setting those cookies.

07More information

This policy sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more broadly. Questions about cookies or privacy go to privacy@getbimiq.com.
