Bridge troubleshooting

The Bridge will not start, the model is not detected, or Bimiq says not connected. Work through these in order.

Most Bridge problems are one of four things: it is not running, the tunnel is blocked, the plugin is not loaded, or the session went idle.

Start here

Is the Bridge actually running?

Look for the tray icon. It hides behind the overflow arrow more often than anyone expects. If it is not there, check Task Manager for BIMIQBridge.exe.

Does the tray icon show a connection?

If there is no tunnel, the problem is network, not Bimiq. Skip to the tunnel section.

Is the model open?

The plugins connect when a model is open. A running Bridge with Revit closed is a Bridge with nothing to read.

Restart the Bridge.

If the session has been idle a long time, restarting re-registers it. This resolves a genuine share of cases and costs ten seconds.

The Bridge will not start

SymptomCause and fix
Nothing happens when you double-click itAn instance is already running. Check Task Manager, and look for the tray icon under the overflow arrow
A dialog says it is already runningSame thing. Dismiss it and find the tray icon
It crashes immediatelyInstall .NET Desktop Runtime 10.0

The tunnel will not open

SymptomCause and fix
Tray icon shows no connectionAntivirus has blocked the tunnel executable. Add an exception for the Bridge's temporary folder
It works at home but not in the officeThe corporate firewall is blocking outbound. Ask IT to allow *.trycloudflare.com on ports 443 and 7844 outbound
Tunnel starts but Bimiq still shows disconnectedRegistration failed. Restart the Bridge, and if it persists, contact us

Revit does not show the plugin

SymptomCause and fix
No BIMIQ panel in the Add-Ins ribbonThe plugin was not installed for that Revit year. Right-click the tray icon and choose Install Revit Plugin
The panel is there but will not connectThe Bridge is not running. Start it
Revit reports a class or load errorThe installed plugin does not match that Revit version. Reinstall from the tray icon so it picks the right build

If you need to confirm what Revit did with the add-in, its journal files are under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit {year}\Journals\.

Check the edition first. Navisworks Manage supports plugins. Simulate and Freedom do not, and no amount of reinstalling will change that.

If you do have Manage, reinstall the plugin from the tray icon.

Bimiq says the Bridge is not connected

Work down this list:

  1. Is BIMIQBridge.exe in Task Manager?
  2. Has it been idle more than 15 minutes? Sessions expire. Restart it.
  3. Is the tunnel up? The tray icon tells you.
  4. Is a model open in Revit or Navisworks?

A request times out

Long operations on a large model can exceed the request timeout.

CauseWhat to do
Revit is syncing with centralWait for the sync to finish, then retry. Revit will not answer while it is syncing
The model is very largeNarrow the request. Filter by category or level rather than asking for everything
The plugin stopped respondingReload the model in Revit or Navisworks
